Bhubaneswar: The annual Adivasi Mela (tribal fair) kicked off at Exhibition ground in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the fair in presence of SC, ST welfare minister Ramesh Majhi and Child and Women Welfare minister Prafulla Samal.
With cultural programmes featuring tribal festival and entertainment, as many as 180 stalls are showcasing the tribal lifestyle, their culture and foods here on the Republic Day evening.
There are 24 mud houses with thatched roofs at the venue showcasing tribal lifestyle and culture.
Forest products are available at 34 stalls. Similarly, the tribal self-help groups have set up 28 stalls at the event. 36 stalls have been set up by the State government displaying various handicrafts items made by the tribals.
The visitors rushed to the ground to purchase the indigenous and organic products including turmeric, chilly, jhuna, food items, tribal jewellery and wooden crafts during the event.
The fair will conclude on February 9.
