Ailing Indigo passenger dies, flight makes emergency landing in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: An Indigo flight going to Bengaluru from Kolkata had to make an emergency landing at Biju Patnaik International airport after an ailing passenger on board became critical and died in Capital hospital here.

Rajkumar Karmakar of Malda in West Bengal, who had fluid in his abdomen, was going to Bengaluru for treatment. He complained of severe stroke in the flight for which the plane had to make emergency landing.

“Despite all possible aids onboard, his condition deteriorated. We had to shift him to Capital hospital after flight landed here. Doctors declared him dead at the hospital”, said his brother-in-law Sunil Choudhury who accompanied him to Bengaluru.

His father was also coming in another flight due to unavailability of tickets. However, he received the bad news before boarding the flight, he added.

The flight, later, flew to its destination.

The body will be handed over to the family members after post-mortem, hospital authorities said.
