Congress to call for Odisha bandh over Mahanadi dispute

Bhubaneswar: The Congress party has decided to call for a state-wide bandh protesting against the move of State and Central government over Mahanadi water issue.

Addressing a press meet, PCC President Niranjan Patnaik slammed both Centre and State government over the Mahanadi crisis.

“Prime Minister Modi did not give any assurance to the people of Odisha during his visit to Odisha recently. Moreover, Odisha government did nothing to protect the interest of Odisha. It was mum till 2015 while Chhattisgarh was continueing its project work,” Patnaik added.

But now it is shedding crocodile tears. Aroun 25 industries went to Chhattisgarh as Odisha could not proide them water in absence of adequate barrages, Patnaik said.

Reacting Patnaik, BJD MP Pratap Deb said, “ The ideology of Congress party has changed when their leadership was changed. It raised the issue now but was mum under the leadership of Prasad Harichandan,” Deb added.

BJP hit out at the Congress saying that all the projects in Chhattisgarh were during the regime of UPA government. Congress is the walking stick of ruling BJD. It was only during NDA government the matter came to light,” BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra said
