New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today sought Odisha government’s support to upgrade the stone sculpture training institute at Konark toan international standard.
In a letter to the CM Naveen Patnaik, Pradhan stated there is need to upgrade the present institute to an international standard. Government of India will provide all necessary assistance for the purpose, he mentioned.
“I would take this opportunity to urge you to extend cooperation of State government so as to make the project successful,” the letter read.
The Union Minister further hoped that an institute of international standard will help keeping alive Odisha’s ancient heritage apart from upgrading the traditional skill of sculptors.
The stone sculptors have acquired international acclaim. The descendants of many renowned artists are still engaged themselves in these profession, Pradhan stated, urging the State to come forward to keep alive this rich tradition.
Tourists facilities like parking bays and an interpretation centres at the UNESCO recognised tourist site, which were constructed by the central PSU- Indian Oil Corporation- were dedicated to the nation on April 1 on occasion of Utkal Dibasa.
