Logjam continues in Odisha Assembly over Lokayukta appointment

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes after Opposition BJP and Congress raised slogans in the well of the House accusing the government of filing false affidavit in the Supreme Court on the appointment of Lokayukta and non-acceptance of the adjournment motion notice for a discussion on the issue.

Unable to manage the situation, the Speaker adjourned the House till 11.30 am and again 3 pm as same situation prevailed.

Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra who raised the Lokayukta issue yesterday today demanded a special discussion on the issue. However, the Speaker didn’t accept his demand following which Congress law makers shouted in the well.

Mishra said he is ready to tender unconditional apology in the House if his statement is proved false. “Will he (Naveen) resign if my version is true,” Mishra said.

Narasingh Mishra said the state government recently made a claim that a notification on Lokayukta was published on January 16, 2015.

If a notification has been issued to implement Odisha Lokayukta Act, the chief minister should present it before the House,

BJP also lambasted the government for telling lie over the issue. Though the law for the purpose was made long ago, the government failed to appoint the Lokayukta, BJP’s Rabi Nayak said.

As soon as the Question Hour session began, the Congress members rushed to the well of the house, protesting against the decision of Speaker Pradip Amat against an adjournment motion notice for a discussion on the topic.

Congress members alleged that government had submitted a false affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that the state had appointed the Lokayukta as per the directive.
