Bhubaneswar: The Congress party of Odisha unit today announced to waive farm loans in the State if it is voted to power in Assembly elections due next year.
Besides, it will also extend financial assistance to farmers for five years, announced Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik after attending the first meeting of the party’s manifesto committee here today.
“We are meeting people in rural areas and discussing with them about their problems. As we observe, the farmers’ issues are more precarious. So, we have decided to waive crop loans after coming to power. Besides, we will also provide them solar pumps to help farmers with irrigation along with financial assistance for five years. With the development of agriculture, the farmers’ financial condition would be strong so that they would not be under depression anymore,” Patnaik said.
The PCC Chief also said that the monthly old-age pension will be increased from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 if Congress voted to power in the State in 2019 elections.
He also promised to sort out the Mahanadi issues by discussing the matter with the Chhattisgarh where his party is going to form government.
