Nandankanan Zoo Welcomes Seven New Yellow Anaconda Hatchlings

The Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, has successfully bred seven yellow anaconda hatchlings, marking a significant milestone in its reptile conservation program. The hatchlings were born to a parent snake that was brought from the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in Chennai in October 2019.


Breeding Details:


- Number of Hatchlings: Seven yellow anaconda hatchlings were born on Sunday.

- Parent Snakes: The hatchlings' parents were brought from the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in Chennai.

- Previous Breeding: The last breeding took place in July 2022, resulting in three cubs, but two of them died.


Current Anaconda Population:


- Adult Anacondas: Two males and two females.

- Young Anacondas: Ten young yellow anacondas, including the seven new hatchlings.

- Expected Addition: Another female anaconda is expected to deliver soon, further increasing the population.


Conservation Efforts:


The successful breeding of yellow anacondas at Nandankanan Zoo highlights the institution's commitment to reptile conservation. The zoo plans to revamp the enclosure for the growing population of anacondas, ensuring their well-being and safety.
