Two people, including a 12-year-old girl, died after being bitten by venomous snakes in separate incidents in Sundargarh district, Odisha. The victims have been identified as Rashmi Oram, a minor from Katuri Dhuwan village, and Ajit Oram, 42, from Narendra Badapada village.


Incident Details:


- Rashmi Oram: The minor girl was bitten by a snake on her neck while sleeping with her family members in her house. Despite initial treatment by a traditional healer, her condition worsened, and she was rushed to Bonai Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

- Ajit Oram: The 42-year-old man was bitten by a snake while relieving himself outside his house. He became unwell and was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.


Cause of the Incident:


The recent rains in the area have led to an increase in snake sightings, causing fear among the local residents. According to experts, snakebites are a significant threat in Odisha, especially during the monsoon season, with over 1,000 deaths reported annually.


Government Response:


The Bonai police have recovered both bodies and sent them for post-mortem examinations. The incident highlights the need for awareness and caution during the rainy season to prevent such incidents.
