Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today came down heavily on Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his government for ‘gross mismanagement’ in tackling the cyclonic storm Titli and resultant flood that claimed several lives and rendered hundreds homeless.
Through a Facebook post, Pradhan mentioned, despite prior information about the calamity, the government has utterly failed to face to the deluge.
“Despite developed technology and every possibility to tackle it, the disaster management policy has failed to yield any fruit. The failed policy has pushed lives of thousands into an adversity, he added.
Pradhan ridiculed the zero casualty slogan of CM Naveen Patnaik, saying that his slogan remained confined in only advertisement.
“You were so busy self campaigning that you engaged yourself in photo shoot at Kalinga stadium for hockey branding during the time of adversity. Moreover, your conscience did not prevent you from taking part in an entertainment event on Sony TV channel,” Pradhan added in his post.
Expressing grief over the loss of 13 lives in a landslide in Gajapati district, the Petroleum minister said the statements of the officers and senior ministers over human casualties seems to be robbing salt into the wounds of the calamity-hit people.
“You cannot finish your responsibility by just expressing condolence to the bereaved families. Their death is not due to a natural disaster, rather they fell victim to a genocide due to your faulty and insensitive disaster management,” the union Minister lambasted.
Indicating the remarks of Minister Surya Patro who compared the cyclone in the USA with ‘Titli’ in Odisha, Pradhan said the insensitive views are insulting and hurting Odia sentiment.
