Cuttack: The Ravenshaw University authorities announced that they will revoke the sine die closure order tomorrow. The sine die order will be lifted before 5 pm tomorrow to bring back normalcy, VC Ishan Patro informed after academic council meeting.
Patro also further informed that examinations of all departments will be completed between May 17 and 20 and results will be announced on May 27.
The VC had informed at a press meet yesterday that sine die order will be lifted only after the students’ agitation is withdrawn. Patro had convened a meeting with staff council at around 12 noon and discussed the situation.
Later, students had called off their stir after a discussion with the VC yesterday.
The students under the banner of Ravenshaw Chhatra Kriyanusthan Committee resorted to strike protesting varsity’s decision to hike fee of courses and hostel.
They staged a demonstration and gheraoed VC’s office protesting the decision of university authorities to hike fee including that of the hostel, vacating hostels among others.
The agitating students demanded withdrawal of the notice ordering vacating of hostels. They also demanded withdrawal of fee hike decision, the appointment of a required number of permanent teaching staff, stop on an opening of courses on self-financing mode and convert self-financing courses into regular courses.
Later, students sat on a dharna demanding fulfillment of their demands. As situation remained tense, the varsity authorities had closed the institution sine die and asked the students to vacate hostel as early as possible.
