Bhubaneswar: The Opposition Congress and BJP today stalled proceedings of the Odisha Assembly on the seventh consecutive day, demanding action against the officials and politicians involved the sapling scam that took place in different districts of the State.
At the outset, BJP and Congress members rushed to the Well of the House and protested against the government for not acting against the tainted officials.
Resultantly, the House could not conduct the Question Hour and was adjourned first till 11.30 am. Later, the Assembly reassembled for Zero Hour during which similar uproarious scene was witnessed as the Opposition members shouted slogans against government over the sapling scam. Amid sloganeering, Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat adjourned the House again till 3 pm.
Congress demanded a detailed clarification from the minister on the sapling issue. “The saplings were bought in poor people’s money. The minister should clarify the role of officials involved in the scam and the government should initiate action against at the earliest,” Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said.
Similar demands were also raised by the BJP. “A high level inquiry should be undertaken into the sapling scam. The officials involved in the graft should be suspended immediately,” BJP’s Rabi Naik said.
