Striking teachers observe Guru Divas as ‘Black Day’

Bhubaneswar: The striking teachers of Block grant schools and colleges who are on dharna since August 16 for fulfilment of various demands including regularisation of job, today observed the Guru Divas (Teachers’ Day) as ‘Black Day’

The Odisha School and College Teachers and Employees United Forum (OSCTEUF) spearheading the agitation today boycotted the Guru Divas. Braving heavy rain, the agitating teachers shouted slogans against the government for paying no heed to their demands which include better service condition, grant in aid to eligible schools and withdrawal of the condition to avail the grant in aid.

They have threatened to paralyse the educational activities by shutting down the school s and colleges from September 6.

The teachers have also warned the government of gheraoing MLAs residence on September 6. Later, they would take their stir to panchayat level by organising motor cycle rally.

On the other hand, the issue of teachers was also raised in Assembly on the second day of monsoon session. BJP members raised slogan against government over teachers’ strike and created ruckus following which the Speaker adjourned the House first till 11.30. Later, similar situation persisted following which Speaker adjourned the House till tomorrow 10.30 AM.
