Sujata Mohapatra, Janmenjaya from Odisha to get Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi award

Bhubaneswar: Two artistes from Odisha have been selected for prestigious Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi award, the list of which was declared yesterday.

Eminent Odissi dancer Sujata Mohapatra will receive the award for Odissi while Janmenjeya Saibabu will get the coveted honour for his outstanding contribution to famous Chhau Nrutya.

President Ramnath Kovind will confer the award with cash award of Rs 1 lakh each at a special event in New Delhi.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s national academy for music, dance and drama, on Tuesday released the list of 42 winners of the award.

It was decided at the general council meeting of the akademi which was held on June 8 in Imphal.

The institution of Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards is now more than fifty years old and the large body of practitioners, gurus and scholars in the performing arts honoured by the Akademi represent the nation’s highest achievement in music, dance and drama.
