Two school students injured in attack by unknown miscreant

Baripada: In a shocking incident, two students, one class VI and another class IX, were injured after an unidentified miscreant attacked them with a sharp weapon at Sarasakana in Mayurbhanj district today.

The incident occurred at around 4.30 am. The miscreant managed to escape in the dark. Police registered a case and started investigation.

According to sources class VI student Sandeep Hansda of Sarasakana Saraswati Sishumandir was going to the toilet in the wee hours when the miscreant came out from a nearest bush and tried to slit his throat. When he screamed, another student named Manoj Mahant ran to him to enquire about the incident. He was also attacked by the miscreant.

As both of them shouted, school teachers and fellow students came out of the room and searched the attacker, but failed to trace him as he escaped taking advantage of darkness.

School staff immediately rushed the injured students to Sarasakana health centre and later shifted to Baripada district headquarters hospital.

Sandeep has critical injury on neck while Manoj sustained multiple minor injuries on the body. Their condition is stable and they will recover soon, doctors said.
