UU students hail police crackdown on illegal hostel occupants

Bhubaneswar: Students of Utkal University have praised the latest move of varsity authorities and Commissionerate police on evicting non-bonafied students occupying the hostels for years and creating nuisance many times in the campus.

Hundreds of students took out a peaceful rally in the campus yesterday and later they met Vice-Chancellor Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, DCP Anup Sahoo and officials of Saheed Nagar police station. They praised the latest move of police and varsity staff and requested them to take continuous measures to restore a healthy academic atmosphere.

The students also urged the VC and police to check the entry of non-students into the campus to ensure a better study environment.

Students alleged that hostel-7 had turned into a hub of antisocial elements. The recent raid on the hostel and eviction drive is really a welcome step, they said, adding that the move would help restoring peace in the campus.

Notably, the university authorities with the help of police evicted the some outsiders who had occupied the hostel rooms illegally. The move came after the students brought the matter to the notice of varsity authorities several times.
