A severe thunderstorm has claimed 12 lives across Odisha, with multiple districts affected. The districts of Koraput, Ganjam, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur have reported the highest number of fatalities.
The deaths were caused by lightning strikes, with incidents reported in various parts of the state. In Koraput, four people died, including three in a paddy field and one while fishing. In Ganjam, two people were killed in separate incidents.
Other fatalities were reported in Balasore, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, and Rourkela, where a CRPF officer was killed while on duty. Several others were injured in the incidents.
The thunderstorms have caused widespread damage and disruption across the state, with multiple incidents reported over a short period.
