The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to withdraw the Indian team from the upcoming Men's and Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup. The decision comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
The BCCI has cited objections to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) being led by Pakistani Minister Mohsin Naqvi as the reason for withdrawal. A BCCI source stated that the decision reflects the sentiment of the country.
India's withdrawal may lead to the cancellation of the tournament, given India's significant sponsorship role. The Asia Cup was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in June.
The tournament was expected to feature teams from India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
The decision follows heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
