Weather Update: Two Low-Pressure Areas to Form in Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of two low-pressure areas in the next week, one in the Arabian Sea and the other in the Bay of Bengal. These systems may intensify into cyclones, impacting various parts of the country.


Arabian Sea System

- Formation: A low-pressure area is expected to form over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast by May 22.

- Movement: The system may further intensify and move northwards.

- Impact: Heavy rains are predicted for several states, including Karnataka, from May 20.


Bay of Bengal System

- Formation: A cyclonic circulation is likely to form in the east-central Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas by May 27.

- Intensification: The system may further intensify into a low-pressure area.


Weather Warnings for Odisha

- Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds: Yellow warnings have been issued for several districts in Odisha, including Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and others, due to expected thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.

- Orange Alert: Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts are under orange alert for May 21.

- Rainfall: Thunderstorm-related rain is expected to continue in the state for the next 5 to 7 days, with no possibility of heat waves.
