The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has launched a strong protest against the death of Soumyashree Bisi, a 20-year-old student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore, who died after setting herself ablaze over alleged sexual harassment by a professor. The party has called for an 8-hour bandh in Balasore district from 6 am to 2 pm and plans to gherao Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
Protest Details:
- Gherao Lok Seva Bhawan: BJD workers will start their procession from Master Canteen Chowk and attempt to encircle Lok Seva Bhavan through Gandhi Marg and PMG Chowk. Security has been tightened around the area to prevent any untoward incidents.
- Security Measures: The police have warned that strict action will be taken against those who try to break the barricades. Drones will be used to monitor the protesters and identify those who attempt to breach security.
- Bandh Impact: Shops, markets, and vehicle movement have come to a standstill in Balasore, with only emergency services continuing. The BJD has appealed to the people of Balasore to participate in the bandh and show solidarity with Soumyashree's family.
