Legendary Bollywood actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, fondly known as "Bharat Kumar," passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his demise, saying, "Deeply saddened by the demise of the great actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar." Modi remembered him as an icon of Indian cinema, whose films instilled a sense of national pride and will continue to inspire generations to come.


Born on July 24, 1937, in Abbottabad, then British India (now Pakistan), Manoj Kumar was admitted to the hospital after suffering a heart attack. According to the hospital's medical certificate, the actor's cause of death was decompensated liver cirrhosis ¹[2).


Manoj Kumar was renowned for his patriotic roles, which deeply resonated with Indian audiences. His unforgettable performances in films like "Upkar," "Purpur Aur Vashisht," and "Hariyali Aur Rasta" have enriched Indian culture and made him a favorite among generations.


Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also condoled the actor's death, saying, "Manoj Kumar was a versatile actor who will always be remembered for making patriotic films." His cinematic legacy will live on through his work, inspiring future generations.
