The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a mandatory 75% attendance requirement for students appearing in the Class 10 and Class 12 Board Exams in 2026. This move aims to enhance classroom engagement, discipline, and ensure regular academic progress among students.


Key Highlights of the CBSE 75% Attendance Rule

- Applicability: All CBSE-affiliated schools in India and abroad.

- Attendance Requirement: Minimum 75% attendance in all subjects combined as of January 1, 2026.

- Eligibility: Only students meeting this attendance mark will be allowed to sit for board exams.

- Exemptions: Allowed for valid reasons like medical emergencies, death of a family member, or participation in national/international sports events with proper documentation.


Strict Enforcement Measures

- Surprise Checks: CBSE will conduct surprise inspections to ensure authenticity of attendance records.

- Action Against Tampering: Strict action will be taken if tampering is found.

- Parental Involvement: Guardians will be informed about attendance status.


CBSE's goal with this mandate is to prevent dummy examinees, encourage regular attendance, improve academic performance, and instill discipline.
