Former Odisha minister and ex-MLA of Kotpad, Padmini Diyan, is in critical condition after allegedly suffering from food poisoning following a feast, with one person dead and three others also severely ill.
Ms. Diyan is currently undergoing treatment at the Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput.
Incident Details
The incident occurred after Ms. Diyan and several others attended a feast yesterday afternoon. Soon after eating, Ms. Diyan fell ill, followed by others including Shantilata Majhi, Parvati Majhi, and Ramvati Diyan.
They were initially admitted to the Kotpad Community Health Center before being transferred to the Jeypore District Headquarters Hospital. Tragically, Parvati Majhi died while undergoing treatment in Jeypore. Following the death, Ms. Diyan and the two other critically ill individuals were immediately shifted to the Koraput SLNMCH for advanced care.
The report suggests that the cause of the sudden illness and death is suspected to be food poisoning from the feast.
Condition Update
Koraput Municipality Chairman Lalat Ranjan Sethi visited the former minister at the hospital. After speaking with Ms. Diyan, the Chairman informed the press that her health condition is currently stable.
Padmini Diyan represented the Kotpad constituency in the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Further details regarding the investigation into the alleged food poisoning are awaited.
