A quest for a second chance at love turned into a financial nightmare for Subhan Ranjan Das, a businessman from Balasore living in Bhubaneswar. After losing his wife in 2023, Subhan connected with Hemlata Giri (alias Mini) on a matrimony site.
Claiming to be a divorcee, Hemlata insisted on a "secret marriage." The duo moved into a rented house in Sishupalgarh, posing as a wedded couple. Over the course of a year, Hemlata allegedly manipulated Subhan into handing over nearly ₹40 lakh under various pretexts.
The deception unraveled when Subhan returned home unexpectedly to find Hemlata in a compromising position with another man.
After recording the betrayal, Subhan discovered she had been bringing multiple men to the house. When confronted, Hemlata allegedly flipped the script, threatening to frame him in a false rape case.
Subhan has now filed a formal complaint at the Dhauli Police Station, seeking justice for the massive fraud and extortion.
