Odisha is facing a brutal weather double-whammy of scorching heat and suffocating humidity. The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre warns that temperatures could soar to 45°C over the next five days, with the IMD issuing a week-long heat alert through April 19.
According to Director Manorma Mohanty, dry north-westerly winds and clear skies are fueling this surge. While coastal districts like Puri and Khurda battle high humidity today and tomorrow, interior regions—including Balangir and Jharsuguda—will face intense heatwave conditions from April 15 to 19.
Safety Guidelines:
Peak Hours: Avoid outdoor activities between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Hydration: Drink plenty of water; wear light, breathable clothing.
Impact: Laborers and commuters are hardest hit as normal life comes to a standstill.
With no significant rainfall in sight, the Health Department urges extreme caution to prevent heatstroke during this critical period.
