Raghunath Sasmal, affectionately known as "Raghu Mausa" and the beloved owner of the famous Raghu Dahibara in Cuttack, Odisha, has passed away today at the age of 94. He breathed his last at his residence in Gopalsahi, Bidanasi, Cuttack.


Legacy and Contributions

- Pioneer of Dahi Bara-Aloo Dum: Sasmal was a pioneer in popularizing the iconic Dahi Bara-Aloo Dum dish in Cuttack.

- Over 70 Years of Service: He began his small food stall at 15 years old in 1950 and became a symbol of Cuttack's rich street food culture.

- Signature Dish: His Raghu Dahibara, served in raw sal leaves, featured soft Dahibara paired with spicy Aloo Dum and a sprinkle of chili powder.


Recognition and Impact

In 2017, Sasmal represented Odisha's Dahi Bara at the Odisha Parba in New Delhi.

Raghunath Sasmal's passing marks the end of an era for Cuttack's street food scene, but his legacy lives on through the iconic flavors he introduced.
