A tiger cub at Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha passed away on Wednesday despite receiving treatment for its illness. The cub had been under medical care for the past three days but unfortunately did not survive.

According to zoo authorities, the cub had been separated from its mother, Rupa, after showing signs of illness, including a refusal to eat and elevated body temperature. A team of veterinarians from the zoo and experts from the CWD (Chief Wildlife Division) provided treatment, but the cub's condition continued to deteriorate.

The tiger cub was one of four born to Rupa on November 2, 2024. One of the cubs had died earlier, and the remaining cubs are being closely monitored through CCTV cameras.

A postmortem examination has been conducted to determine the cause of death, which is yet to be ascertained. The zoo currently houses 27 tigers, including 14 males, 10 females, and 3 cubs.
