Bhubaneswar: Acclaimed marketing executive and former president of US-based luggage company Samsonite Corporation, Sashi Dash passed away at a private hospital in Singapore. He was 75. He is survived by his wife, daughter and son.
Born in Odisha, Sashi had entered the business world at the age of 16 through his father’s transportation company in India. He touched the pinnacle of success in marketing world with his extraordinary sales skill. A multi-talented business leader, Dash proved his mettle by building luggage brands like VIP, Aristocrat and later Samsonite.
Dash, who worked with Samsonite till 2008, had held different top posts during his long tenure in the company. His positions include president of the company for overseeing all of Asia Pacific, Australia and Japan.
During his tenure, Samsonite’s growth in the Asia-Pacific region was exponential with a highly profitable track record.
Known as the luggage man of India, Dash was hailed by national magazine ‘Business World’ as one of the top ten marketing hot-shots.
An expert in the field of marketing and management, Dash was also a business columnist. His articles have found place in ‘The Illustrated Weekly of India’, ‘The Times of India’, ‘The Gentleman’.
He has been a guest faculty at many leading institutes including Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and the Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.
