Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Monday to inquire about the health condition of a Fakir Mohan College student who attempted self-immolation due to alleged harassment by a professor.
The student, Soumyashree Bisi, is undergoing treatment in the ICU with 90-95% burn injuries affecting her kidneys and respiratory system.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
- Health Update: The student's condition remains critical but stable, with no significant improvement observed so far. An 8-member medical team is providing round-the-clock care.
- Minister's Concern: Dharmendra Pradhan expressed worry over the incident, emphasizing the need for a safe and respectful relationship between teachers and students in educational institutions.
- Government Action: The Odisha government has suspended the college principal and arrested the accused professor, Sameer Kumar Sahoo. A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
