Assembly adjourned till 3 pm amid noisy protests

Bhubaneswar: The State Assembly was on Monday adjourned till 3 pm as both the treasury and opposition party members protested in the House raising different issues.

While ruling BJD targeted the Centre over funding pattern under post-matric scholarship for ST/SC students, opposition BJP and Congress resorted to sloganeering over media reports on presence of CBI in the Secretariat.

As the House met for the day, BJD members were seen standing and shouting at their seats holding posters in their hands. They brought to the notice of the House that the Union Government has stopped the stipend of the SC and ST students.

However, Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat called Finance Minister Shashi Bhushan Behera to give reply to a question posed by BJD member Ranendra Pratap Swain. The question was related to elimination of Central schemes and cut in funds in Central schemes.

Meanwhile, Congress members rushed into the Well of the House raising the issue of entry of CBI teams into the Secretariat a month ago published in a daily.

Amid protests and sloganeering, the Speaker adjourned the House at 11.34 am till 3 pm.

Later, BJD members went to the Mahatma Gandhi Statue and staged a dhrana there.
