Body on bicycle: BJP flays Odisha govt over Mahaprayan failure

Bhubaneswar: A day after a man was forced to carry his relative’s body on bicycle in Boudh, the BJP today came down heavily on the State government alleging utter failure of government’s ‘Mahaprayan’ scheme.

Speaking at a press meet, BJP State President Basant Panda said there is nothing more shame than a dead body being carried on a bicycle. “Even a dead body is deprived of justice in the State. An inefficient government is running here. In the name of Aama Gaan, Ama Bikash, the chief minister is claiming to have developed the State. But, this incident clearly reflects the nude picture of development,” Panda said.

The man who carried the body on bicycle was facing social ostracisation. But, it is unfortunate that the government is unaware about the fact. Where is the Biju Yuva Bahini formed by the state government? Is it working for the interest of people or BJD, he asked.

At a time when, chief minister is crowned with the best administrator, yesterday’s episode tells about his best administration, Panda lamented. The development slogan is only confined in newspaper advertisement, the BJP president said.

Yesterday, a man in a village in Boudh district of Odisha was seen carrying the body of his sister-in-law, who died of diarrhea, on a bicycle for funeral as none of his relatives and fellow villagers came out to help him.

The incident hugged the headlines.
