Congress’ ‘Chaka Jam’ underway; Traffic hit in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar

 

Bhubaneswar: Vehicular movement in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack has been severely disrupted due to the State Congress’ six-hour ‘Chaka Jam’ agitation underway since 6 am this morning.

 

Thousands of vehicles have been stranded on the over-bridges of the National Highway-16 at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar as Congress activists blocked the road by burning tyres at different places. Party workers are also doing picketing at petrol pumps. Vehicular movement has also been hit on the city roads, beside the NH.

According to reports, senior leaders like Mohammad Muquim and Bijayalaxmi Sahoo have led the agitation in the millennium city Cuttack.  PCC leader Niranjan Patnaik and other senior leaders are leading the protest in the capital city.

The “Chaka Jam” agitation called by the Congress in protest against hike in prices of petrol and diesel would continue till 12 noon today.

The party has demanded that the Union Government immediately reduce prices of petrol, diesel and LPG  and the State waive a portion of the 26 per cent VAT collected by it on the fuels.

The Commissionerate police have deploy more than 22 battalions at important junctions to maintain ant law and order situation.
