Odisha Assembly passes Bills to hike salaries of MLAs

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly on Tuesday passed the Legislative Assembly Members ’ Salary, Allowance and Pension  Bill on the last working day of Budget session.

As per the Bill, daily allowances of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Council of Ministers were increased from Rs 150 to Rs 800. While daily allowances of Leader of Opposition, Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip was increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1,500.

The members of the House will get daily allowances according to the numbers of the days the House functions.

Currently salary of the Speaker is Rs 97,500 and the Deputy Speaker is drawing an amount of Rs 95,000 as salary.

Similarly, the Chief Whip is getting Rs 97,000 while the deputy Chief whip is drawing a salary of Rs 93,000 and the Lead of Opposition is paid an amount of Rs 97,000 per month.

The members of Council of Minister draw salary of Rs 97,000 each per month.
