Bhubaneswar: Police on Tuesday resorted to lathicharge on the agitating block grant teachers, who have staged dharna in front of the Capital High School here since Monday protesting delay on the part of the Government in fulfilling their demands of better salary and job regularisation.
Teachers staged a dharna in from of the Capital High School here, which is one among the 57 evaluation centres, as mark of protest.
Members of Odisha School College Teachers’ and Employees’ United Forum, who boycotted the evaluation process on Tuesday, allegedly stopped the other teachers, who reached the Capital High School today morning from entering the school premises for scrutiny.
On being informed, Commissionerate Police rushed to the spot and intercepted the agitating teachers from doing so following which a scuffle ensued between them.
Later, the cops resorted to lathicharge on the teachers.
Notably, the block grant teachers have been demanding a withdrawal of a controversial affidavit they have signed to avail themselves of the benefits of the grant-in-aid system. The agitating teachers also demand clearances of their dues, implementation of the recommendation of the Seventh Pay Commission and an increase of the retirement age to 62.
Meanwhile, the teachers that have been appointed as the alternative for the block grant teachers have started the cheeking of the answer copies of the Matic exams from today. The scrutiny will continue for 12 days. A total of 13,280 teachers will check the answer scripts of as many as 5,90,330 students in 57 evaluation centres across Odisha.
