Bhubaneswar: In a bid to recycle plastic water bottle and polythene used for packaging milk, the Odisha government has planned a novel idea. Accordingly, a man who returns used polythene and water bottles will be paid back. These used items will be collected through agents. A notification will be issued as per the rule of environment protection act by August end.
As the government decided to impose ban on use of plastic and polythene in five municipal corporations and Puri town as pilgrim city, a meeting under the chairmanship of chief secretary was held at secretariat, Forest Environment Secretary Suresh Mohapatra said.
Rules for ban on plastic will be drafted by September 15. The rules should be executed in two weeks.
Earlier, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had announced that ban will be imposed on plastic in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Berhampur and Sambalpur municipal corporations and Puri town from October 2 in the first phase.
Later, the use of plastic will be completely banned across Odisha in the next two years.
