The Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district, Odisha, is scheduled to reopen its gates to tourists on August 1, 2025, after a three-month closure. The park was closed from May 1 to July 31 to facilitate the breeding and nesting of saltwater crocodiles.
The forest department has introduced a 600-meter-long wooden canopy bridge, elevated 15 meters above the ground, providing tourists with a unique opportunity to observe wildlife without disturbing them.
Visitors can enjoy the park's stunning natural scenery, spot white crocodiles like 'Gori', 'Malli', and 'Sweta', exotic birds, and experience river rafting and walking on the forest's skywalk.
The forest department offers accommodations at forest rest houses in Dangamala, Habalikothi, and Gupti, which can be booked through (link unavailable)
The forest department has completed the final stages of preparations to welcome visitors and ensure a smooth experience.
The park authorities conducted an annual crocodile nest count, identifying 114 nests this year, slightly lower than last year's count of 122.
The closure aimed to protect the reptiles from human disturbance during their nesting period, ensuring a peaceful environment for mating and nesting.
