Odisha Braces for Heavy Rainfall as Low-Pressure System Intensifies

A low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue alerts for several districts in Odisha. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in various parts of the state until July 28.



- Red Alert: Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are under red alert for today, with forecasts indicating heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

- Orange Alert: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh districts are under orange alert, expecting heavy rainfall with thundershowers and winds blowing at 30-40 kmph.

- Weather Conditions: The low-pressure system is likely to move west-northwestwards towards North Odisha and the southern West Bengal coast, bringing significant rainfall and thunderstorms.



- Fishermen Advisory: Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea due to rough seas and heavy rainfall expected until July 27.

- Wind Speed: Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may accompany thunderstorms in affected districts.
