In a major crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance arrested Vijay Kumar Barik, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Cuttack CRRI Police Station, on Sunday. Barik was apprehended at Rajmahal Chowk while allegedly accepting a ₹40,000 bribe from a licensed liquor dealer.
Following the trap, Vigilance teams launched simultaneous raids on Barik’s properties. During a search of his official quarters in Unit 1, investigators recovered ₹5 lakh in unexplained cash. The entire bribe amount was seized on the spot, and a formal case has been registered against the officer.
Authorities are currently interrogating Barik to determine the source of the recovered funds and investigate further allegations of extortion. As the investigation unfolds, the department has reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding official misconduct.
