The Central Government has officially notified the creation of the Rayagada Railway Division, set to become operational on June 1, 2026. Functioning under the East Coast Railway (ECoR), the new division will manage a total of 696 km of track, significantly boosting regional rail administration.
This administrative overhaul follows the strategic bifurcation of the existing Waltair division. While one segment integrates into the Rayagada division, the remaining portion will fall under the newly established South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone.
Headquartered in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, the South Coast Railway Zone marks a major expansion in India’s rail network.
This restructuring aims to streamline operations, improve connectivity, and enhance passenger services across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, signaling a new era for local rail logistics and infrastructure.
