Bhubaneswar - Odisha's road safety is under scrutiny as recent Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) data paints a worrying picture.
The state ranks 2nd nationally in alcohol-related accidental deaths and 3rd in mobile-use related accidents.
- Drunk Driving: 254 deaths in 2023 (down from 301 in 2022); Odisha's rank: 2nd after Uttar Pradesh.
- Mobile Use: 163 deaths in 433 accidents (2023); 35% rise from 2022; UP tops list.
- Overall: Accidental deaths rose from 46.9 (2022) to 47.9 (2023).
- Helmet Non-Use: 1696 deaths (2024); 5160 lost in 3 years due to this.
