The Odisha government has announced a 3-year relaxation in the upper age limit for Sub-Inspector recruitment, benefiting candidates who have approached the High Court. This decision, informed by Advocate General Pitambar Acharya, aims to provide relief to aspirants who have been waiting for recruitment opportunities since 2018.
The government's notification issued on January 17, 2025, extends the maximum age limit for SI candidates by three years.
This relaxation is limited to applicants who have filed petitions in the High Court.
The Odisha Police Recruitment Board had announced 933 posts for various positions, including:
- Sub Inspector: 609 posts
- Arms Sub Inspector Police: 253 posts
- Fire Station Sub Inspector: 47 posts
- Assistant Jail Sub Inspector: 24 posts
Many aspirants had filed cases in the High Court seeking age relaxation, citing the gap in recruitment since 2018.
The High Court is expected to evaluate whether the state's age-limit adjustment should apply more broadly or remain confined to active petitioners.
