The Odisha Police launched Operation Garuda on August 1, targeting crime, illegal trade, and anti-social activities across the state. Led by district Superintendents of Police (SPs) and supervised by Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar, the operation will continue until August 14.
Key Achievements in the First Week
- Arrests: 129 wanted criminals arrested in various cases including gun trafficking, ganja trafficking, and drug trafficking.
- Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs): 3,189 NBWs executed.
- Seizures:
- Liquor: 17,069 liters of illicit liquor seized in 890 excise cases.
- Illegal Weapons: 51 firearms, 95 rounds of ammunition, and ₹1.45 lakh seized.
- Narcotics: 888 kg of ganja and 68.57 grams of brown sugar seized in 11 NDPS cases.
- Gambling: ₹2.79 lakh seized in 11 gambling cases.
- Drunk Driving: 115 cases registered with vehicles seized.
District Highlights
- Ganjam: 10 firearms seized, 13 arrested in illegal arms smuggling.
- Rourkela: 10 firearms seized from one person; ₹1.48 lakh seized in gambling cases with 17 arrests.
- Kandhamal: 535 kg of ganja seized with 15 arrests.
- Keonjhar: Maximum excise cases (107) with 1,509 liters of illicit liquor seized.
ADG Sanjay Kumar stated that Operation Garuda will be intensified to curb criminal activities and ensure safety and security for the public.
