A significant teacher shortage persists in Odisha's model schools, with 2,467 teaching posts currently lying vacant across the state. This information was provided by School and Public Education Minister Nityanand Gand in a reply to MLA Subashini Jena today.
The Minister informed the Assembly that the Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya Organization oversees 315 model schools (314 block-level and one special school in Bhubaneswar), catering to 1,24,059 students. Out of 7,036 sanctioned teaching positions, only 4,569 have been filled.
Vacancies include 261 Headmasters, 185 Vice Headmasters, 883 PGTs, and 655 TGTs. The Minister stated that while TGT posts are filled by direct recruitment, Headmaster and PGT posts use both direct recruitment and promotion. He assured the House that special steps are being taken to expedite the filling of the vacancies.
