In a significant boost to Odisha's tourism and infrastructure development, the central government has granted in-principle approval for the construction of a new greenfield airport in Puri, named Shri Jagannath Airport. The project is expected to enhance regional connectivity, promote economic growth, and make the holy city of Puri more accessible to pilgrims and tourists.

- Land Acquisition: The airport will be developed on 1,164 acres of land.
- Investment: The project involves an investment of Rs 5,631 crore.
- Phased Construction: The airport will be constructed in three phases.
- Passenger Capacity: Upon completion, the airport is expected to facilitate air travel for 4.6 million passengers per year.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has welcomed the central government's approval, expressing hope that the airport will give a new impetus to the state's economic growth and make Puri more accessible to devotees and tourists. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu for their support.
