In a landmark boost for Odisha's maritime economy, the Central Government has officially notified Paradip Port as a 'Mega Port' under the Indian Ports Act, 2025.
Issued on September 25, the recognition elevates Paradip to an elite national tier, making it the sole mega port on India's entire east coast and joining Deendayal, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mundra ports nationwide.
The status was granted following rigorous evaluations under Section 73 of the Act, honoring Paradip’s stellar operational efficiency and massive cargo throughput of 156.45 million metric tonnes during the 2025–26 fiscal year.
Terming the milestone a monumental leap for the state's industrial landscape, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The prestigious tag unlocks vast avenues for advanced infrastructure modernization, enhanced maritime connectivity, and accelerated port-led commercial growth.
