A team of onco surgeons at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, Siksha 'O' Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University, successfully performed a rare and complex surgery to remove a cancer-affected portion of a 45-year-old woman's lung.

- The patient was initially misdiagnosed with tuberculosis at another hospital
- She was later diagnosed with Mucoepidermoid Cancer of the left main bronchus involving left upper lobe bronchus at SUM Hospital
- The surgery, known as 'Sleeve Recession', lasted over five hours and involved the removal of the affected lung portion
- The patient was discharged after seven days and is recovering well.
