SUNDARGARH — In a major enforcement drive, the Sundargarh Excise Department busted a long-running illegal liquor manufacturing unit hidden deep inside the Pithabhuin forest under the Lefripada police limits.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from the Sundargarh Mobile Unit, Ujjwalpur Range, and Hemgir Range—backed by local police and conducted in the presence of Additional Tehsildar and Magistrate Kabita Kiran—raided the remote site.
Authorities successfully destroyed a massive 15,600 kg of Mahua wash and seized 1,380 liters of country liquor ready for distribution. Navigating the dense terrain, officials comprising Mobile Unit Inspector Niranjan Sahu, Range Officers Rupesh Mukhi and Sumit Kumar Sahu, and police personnel dismantled the sprawling illicit setup.
The Excise Department is actively investigating to unearth the distribution network and identify the key masterminds behind the operation.
