An female tusker died after coming in contact with live wires at Jamsuli village under Betnoti forest Range in Mayurbhanj district onThursday.
According to the reports, the female elephant came in contact with a live electric wire meant to protect the paddy crop and died on the spot.
A herd of 11 wild elephants was roaming in the Badampur area under the Betnoti Forest Range.
A female tusker was separated from the herd when the forest department officials were busy patrolling the area at night.
However, the forest officials reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.
