The Berhampur Vigilance Court has granted conditional bail to 114 candidates arrested in connection with the Odisha Police SI exam corruption case. Each candidate was released on a bail bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties. Over 40 lawyers represented the candidates in securing their release.
However, the relief was not universal, as the bail applications of the alleged mastermind, Muna Mohanty, and nine others were rejected.
A total of 123 people, including the 114 candidates, were arrested in the case. The candidates were apprehended on a bus while travelling to Andhra Pradesh.
Key conditions for the granted bail include:
Prohibition from leaving the state without police permission.
A mandate to fully cooperate with the investigating officer.
A restriction against influencing witnesses.
Other arrested individuals whose bail was rejected include Srikant Maharana, Laxmidhar Maharana, Biswaranjan Behera, Soumya Priyadarshini Samal, and T Abhimanyu Dora.
