Today, October 29, is observed as 'World Stroke Day' to raise global awareness about stroke, a condition increasingly linked to modern lifestyles. The day was established in 2004 at the World Stroke Congress and is championed by the World Stroke Organization (WSO).

This year, the day is celebrated under the theme “Every Minute Counts,” emphasizing the critical importance of timely intervention.

Stroke incidence is high among patients with conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and among smokers. Data shows that 64% of stroke patients are men, with most cases occurring in individuals over 61 years old. Key risk factors include smoking, alcohol, high blood pressure, and obesity.

The public is reminded that immediate first aid can be life-saving. Special care is advised during winters, urging people to stay warm, hydrate, and strictly follow doctor's advice on medication and exercise to mitigate risks.
