Sixteen students from Ravenshaw East Hostel have been hospitalized at SCB Medical College after falling ill with severe diarrhea. Preliminary reports suggest the cause is food poisoning from the drinking water.
The affected students, part of a group of approximately 180 boarders, had consumed rice, roti, egg tadka, and bhaja (fried vegetables) last night.
Water samples have been immediately sent to a lab for testing to confirm the source of contamination.
This incident follows a similar food poisoning case in another Ravenshaw hostel previously. Students have raised serious concerns, alleging that the hostel’s Aqua Guard water purifier is faulty and dispensing contaminated water. They claim repeated complaints about the issue have been ignored by the authorities, prompting an urgent call for action.
